Thaipusam Booth
30th January 2010, was the official date for the Thaipusam Celebration in Malaysia. However, 2 days before that, the whole of Batu Caves were already packed with devotees and tents have been set-up all over the area.
Well, EWRF did not want to miss out the opportunity of reaching out to all the Indians that would be the majority of the patrons of the event.
So, we started with the preparation in full blast. Flyers, bookmarks and souvenirs were hurriedly prepared as we were expecting a huge turnout for the event.
We even had to attend a meeting with the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) in order to secure a booth at Batu Caves. Once it was approved, up went the tent and we worked on our tent’s deco. The aim of setting up the booth was to be in the eye of the community and further enlarge our network-base. Fund-Raising was seen as a plus-point to be conducted during the celebration too. Thus a major donation box was placed right in front of the tent. Small donation boxes were prepared as the entire staff and volunteers of EWRF were responsible for the fund-raising too.
The projector was set-up to highlight our majorly successful media interpreter Astro’s Kannadi programme.
There arrived 28th January 2010, the opening of our booth at Batu Caves that will be conducted for 4 days till the 31st January 2010. Thousands of patrons made their way to Batu Caves and we enthusiastically promoted the existence of EWRF to all of them. There were even those who were excited to see us there and generously filled-in our donation boxes.
We got so enthusiastic and grabbed our mobile-donation boxes to further reach out to probable-donors. The weariness due to the long hours of standing and the humid weather didn’t stop us as we received many encouraging words from passer-bys. Nevertheless, the total amount of RM3, 842 that we managed to collect during the whole 4-days period has made us realize that the community is still hesitant over the importance of education empowerment. Situations like these prove to be challenging for an organization like EWRF as we are all-out to preach the power of education, to prove its ability to take people to greater heights and break the barriers that holds them down.
Nevertheless we will continue to serve the community as there are many who believe our Vision and supports it!
